We are hiring a Permanent Full-Time Laundry Attendant for qathet General Hospital in Powell River. This is not a hotel or industrial laundry facility you will be handling residents’ personal clothing, ensuring each item is properly washed, dried, folded, and returned to the right person, in the right closet. For many residents, having their own clean, familiar clothing is a small but deeply meaningful part of their day.

Key Responsibilities
- Wash, dry, fold, hang, and care for residents’ personal clothing according to individual fabric care requirements and established procedures.
- Label new clothing items clearly and accurately, and deliver finished garments to residents’ designated closets or rooms.
- Safely transfer and manoeuvre laundry carts and large mobile containers between units, handling loads up to 50 pounds.
- Sort, process, and distribute hospital linens including sheets, towels, patient gowns, and surgical scrubs.
- Inspect textiles for stains, damage, or excessive wear, setting aside items requiring repair, replacement, or special treatment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area, including carts, machines, and storage spaces.
- Respond promptly and courteously to special requests or urgent linen needs from patient care units.
- Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment without compromising quality, accuracy, or infection control standards.
- Follow all health and safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment and chemical handling procedures.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure consistent coverage and smooth workflow throughout each shift.
Qualifications
Required:
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, following established procedures reliably and consistently.
- Physically fit and capable of manoeuvring large mobile containers weighing up to 50 pounds, and standing for extended periods.
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English to follow instructions, complete documentation, and communicate with team members and residents.
- Flexible availability to work the posted schedule: Tuesday to Saturday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., including statutory holidays as required.
- Courteous, punctual, responsible, and reliable your team and the residents count on you to show up and deliver.
- Up-to-date immunization status, including Hepatitis A and B, MMR, Influenza, and any other vaccinations required for healthcare settings (mandatory).
- Clean criminal record check (mandatory).
Preferred:
- Previous experience in healthcare laundry, long-term care, or commercial laundry operations is an asset, but not required—we provide hands-on training.
- Familiarity with infection control protocols and proper handling of soiled linens.
- A genuine, patient approach to working with older adults or individuals with complex care needs.
