Key Responsibilities
As a Motor Vehicle Operator, you will be entrusted with significant responsibility for the safety and comfort of our residents. Your daily tasks will include:
- Safely operating state-owned buses, vans, and other non-construction vehicles to transport residents according to a daily schedule.
- Performing detailed pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure all safety systems are functional.
- Assisting residents with boarding and disembarking, which includes safely operating wheelchair lifts and securement systems.
- Adhering strictly to all traffic laws, departmental policies, and scheduled pick-up/drop-off times.
- Maintaining accurate logs for trips, mileage, and vehicle condition.
- Providing friendly, patient, and professional interaction with residents, staff, and the public at all times.
- Reporting any vehicle maintenance needs or safety concerns to your supervisor promptly.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must meet the following state requirements:
- A minimum of two (2) years of verifiable experience operating trucks or buses.
- A valid New Jersey Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is mandatory.
- The ability to pass a comprehensive background check, including fingerprinting.
- The ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- A safe driving record and a demonstrated commitment to vehicle safety protocols.
- Patience, empathy, and a respectful attitude when working with individuals with disabilities.
