OCA is looking for a passionate and experienced Vocational Tutor in Paint & Plaster to join our team. This is a full-time role dedicated to delivering high-impact, hands-on training that equips students with the practical skills and industry knowledge needed to succeed in construction. You will blend expert trade instruction with student mentorship, playing a key role in shaping the next generation of painting and plastering professionals.

Key Responsibilities
As a Vocational Tutor, you will have a multifaceted role that goes beyond the classroom. Your key duties will include:
- Delivering engaging practical and theoretical training in painting, decorating, and plastering techniques, including surface preparation, application methods, and decorative finishes.
- Ensuring all training content aligns with NZQA unit standards, the NZ Building Code, and current industry best practices.
- Providing academic guidance and pastoral support to students, helping to build their confidence, improve retention, and prepare them for apprenticeships or employment.
- Embedding health, safety, and environmental best practices into every aspect of training delivery.
- Contributing to curriculum development, assessment moderation, and quality assurance processes.
- Actively building and maintaining relationships with industry partners to ensure training remains relevant and connected to employment opportunities.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a tradesperson with a passion for teaching. You will need:
- A NZ Certificate in Painting & Decorating (Level 4) or an equivalent recognised trade qualification.
- Substantial, proven industry experience as a painter and plasterer.
- Experience in tutoring, mentoring, or training others. A formal teaching qualification is an advantage, but a commitment to working towards one is welcomed.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to connect with and inspire young learners.
- A patient, empathetic, and student-centred approach.
- Basic IT and administrative skills for reporting and record-keeping.
- Experience working with Pacific learners or diverse communities is highly valued.
