“What a great service” “Your technician was so friendly.” “You guys do such a great job protecting our home.” These aren’t just nice comments they’re the reason we love what we do. Smoke Alarm Testing Services (SATS) is looking for a local technician in Hamilton to join our team, helping keep rental properties safe and compliant across the region. If you enjoy working independently, take pride in doing a job properly, and like the idea of making a real difference in people’s lives, this role could be exactly what you’ve been looking for.
About the Company
SATS has been protecting homes across Australia and New Zealand for over 15 years. We’re locally owned and operated, working on behalf of Real Estate Agents and Landlords to ensure their properties meet state legislation for smoke alarms. But we’re more than just a compliance company. We’re a fun, energetic team that operates with real purpose—providing peace of mind to tenants and property owners alike. Our niche is simple: qualified people installing and maintaining smoke alarms in residential rental properties. If that core focus sparks something in you, you’ll fit right in.
Key Responsibilities
You’ll visit residential rental properties across Hamilton and beyond to install, test, and maintain smoke alarms, making sure every home meets the required safety standards.
Work Independently: Once you’re trained and confident, you’ll be out on your own, managing your day, planning your routes, and getting the job done without someone looking over your shoulder.
When you knock on a tenant’s door, you represent us. You’ll be friendly, professional, and respectful of people’s homes, answering questions and leaving a positive impression every time.
The job involves climbing up and down ladders multiple times a day to reach alarms, check batteries, and ensure everything is working as it should. You’ll need to be comfortable with heights and physically fit.
You’ll use a phone and simple reporting tools to log your work, update records, and communicate with the team back at base. No need to be a tech wizard, but comfortable with basic apps and forms.
Some days will take you further afield, and overnight stays may be required occasionally. If you enjoy a bit of travel and seeing new places, that’s a bonus.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
You’re the kind of person who can be trusted to work unsupervised. You manage your time well, stay on task, and take pride in doing the job right, even when no one’s watching.
You’re open to travelling around the region and staying overnight when required. A bit of flexibility goes a long way.
You take pride in your appearance, you’re well-spoken, and you understand that how you present yourself reflects on the company.
This role is active. You’ll be climbing ladders, carrying equipment, and on your feet for much of the day. You need to be fit enough to handle that comfortably.
A full manual licence is essential you’ll be driving a company vehicle, so you need to be confident behind the wheel.
You don’t need to be an IT expert, but you’ll be using a phone for reporting, so basic comfort with apps and digital forms is important.
A police check will be conducted prior to commencement, so a clear history is required.
You must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand to apply for this role.
What You’ll Be Rewarded With
You’ll have a reliable vehicle to get you from job to job, with all costs covered.
Everything you need to do the job well is provided. Just bring yourself and your positive attitude.
Your wellbeing matters. We offer support for your mental, physical, and financial health when you need it.
You’re not thrown in the deep end. We provide thorough training, coaching, and ongoing support so you can build confidence and skills over time.
Every day, you’re helping protect families and ensure homes are safe. That’s work you can feel genuinely good about.
- Competitive Pay: Earn between $15.00 – $19.00 per hour, based on experience.
We take the job seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. You’ll be part of a team that enjoys working together and celebrating wins.
