Key Responsibilities
- Transport guests safely between the hotel and activity sites using buses and four wheel drive adventure vehicles.
- Conduct guided and structured off road tours through the Hooker and Tasman Valleys, sharing knowledge of flora, fauna, and natural history.
- Check in guests for tours, screening for appropriate clothing, footwear, and health issues, and ensuring each trip departs on time.
- Maintain all vehicles in a clean and tidy manner, performing pre departure and start up checks including additional checks in bad weather.
- Comply fully with Land Transport New Zealand rules including correct logbook entries, rest periods, and all legal requirements.
- Demonstrate understanding of health and safety and emergency procedures, including accident reporting.
- Work with other activities team members to create an exceptional product for all visitors to the area.
What You Need to Qualify
A full clean New Zealand driver’s licence with proven solid driving experience is required. A Class 2 or 4 endorsement and a P endorsement are essential. Prior guiding experience and professional off road driving experience are required. You must have the ability to manage a group and strong public speaking and communication skills. A love for the outdoors, an outgoing personality, and a good level of fitness are necessary. Proactive timekeeping skills, a strong sense of responsibility, commitment, and reliability are expected. You must be comfortable working and living in a remote location and willing to live onsite in Aoraki Mount Cook Village. You must have the right to work in New Zealand.
Salary and Benefits
The hourly rate for this Driver Guide position ranges from 28 to 35 New Zealand dollars per hour based on experience and qualifications, which aligns with current market rates for professional driver guides in remote tourism locations. This is a full time role. Subsidised accommodation is provided as part of the unique lifestyle package, with weekly board rates including Wi Fi and power.
