UHN is seeking Casual Laundry Sorters/Washers to join our Linen & Laundry Department at Toronto General Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital. What You Will Be Doing
- You will unload carts of clean linen and load carts of soiled linen onto trailers.
- You will deliver carts of clean linen to patient units and clinics, and transport soiled linen for return to the service provider.
- You will count previous days’ unused linen and adjust linen orders in accordance with par levels.
- You will stock any special linen requests as needed.
- You will wash, dry, and fold scrubs, curtains, slings, and other washable items using industrial washers and dryers.
- You will restock the Scrubex dispensing machines with clean scrubs and remove soiled scrubs for laundering.
- At Toronto General only: You will transport carts, which requires successful completion of a tow motor training course and licensing provided by UHN.
- At Toronto Western only: You will restock the alex linen dispensing machines with clean linens (sheets, towels) on patient care units and in the Emergency Department.
- You will follow all Infection Prevention and Control procedures, including hand washing and isolation protocols.
- You will wear gloves, isolation gowns, masks (surgical and N95), eye protection, and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
- You will clean and disinfect equipment with bleach and other cleaning chemicals while wearing required PPE.
- You will perform cross-functional duties as assigned and other duties consistent with the job classification.
What We Are Looking For
- You have at minimum completion of high school or recognized equivalent.
- You have less than 3 months of practical and related experience, or less than 1 month of on-the-job training is required.
- You are able to be on your feet (standing and walking) for long periods of time.
- You can push and pull carts weighing up to 23 kgs.
- You have simple mathematical calculation skills (adding and subtracting).
- You can perform duties in a professional and courteous manner, producing high-quality work while meeting deadlines.
- You exercise initiative and good judgment with the ability to multi-task.
- You comply with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy.
- You have effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- You are client service oriented and can work effectively with diversity.
- For Toronto General only: You must be able to successfully complete the tow motor training program and obtain a license to safely transport linen carts.
What We Offer
This is a casual position with the flexibility of variable hours and various shifts as required. You will work at either Toronto General Hospital or Toronto Western Hospital, depending on the site you are hired for.
