Some roles keep you inside the same four walls every day. This isn’t one of them. SunPork Group is looking for a Maintenance Technician to join our team, working across modern pig farming operations in New Zealand. If you’re the kind of person who likes getting their hands dirty, solving problems on the fly, and taking ownership of the equipment and infrastructure that keeps a farm running, this role offers exactly that. You won’t be stuck on a production line or inside a factory. Instead, you’ll be out in the field diagnosing faults, repairing systems, and preventing breakdowns before they happen. No two days will look the same.
About the Company
SunPork Group is one of Australasia’s leading agribusinesses, operating modern pig farms across New Zealand and Australia. We’re not a small operation—but we haven’t lost sight of what matters. Our farms rely on well-maintained equipment to keep animals healthy and operations running smoothly, which means our maintenance team is absolutely essential to everything we do. We offer permanent, secure employment with a supportive team culture, modern facilities, and real opportunities to develop your skills. If you’re looking for a role where your work genuinely matters and you’re trusted to get on with it, you’ll fit right in.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll take responsibility for keeping buildings, plant, and equipment in top condition. This includes water systems—pumps, drinkers, tanks, and pipework—along with ventilation and climate control, feeding systems, heating equipment, and effluent management.
One day you might be repairing an auger in a feeding system, the next you’re fixing fencing or gates. You’ll also work on motors, silos, and general farm infrastructure, so if you like variety, you’ll get plenty of it.
When something breaks down or an alarm sounds, you’ll be the one diagnosing the fault and carrying out repairs. Your problem-solving skills will be put to good use every day.
Prevent Breakdowns: Reactive repairs are part of the job, but preventative maintenance is just as important. You’ll carry out routine inspections, spot potential issues early, and stop failures before they happen.
You’ll maintain maintenance schedules and records, monitor spare parts and supplies, and make sure everything needed is on hand when a job comes up.
Sometimes you’ll need extra hands or specialist help. When that happens, you’ll coordinate and supervise contractors, making sure work is done safely and to standard.
You’ll work alongside farm staff, helping them understand safe equipment use and making sure they have what they need to do their jobs.
Safety and Biosecurity
Our farms operate under strict safety and biosecurity requirements, and you’ll play a key role in maintaining those standards. You’ll follow site procedures, identify hazards, and ensure all maintenance work is carried out in a way that protects animal welfare and keeps farm operations running without compromise.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
A trade qualification in mechanical, engineering, maintenance, or a similar field.
At least five years’ experience in a maintenance technician role—preferably within a farming or agricultural environment.
Genuine hands-on repair and fault-finding skills. You’re comfortable diagnosing issues and fixing them yourself.
The ability to work independently and manage your own workload. We need people we can trust to get on with the job.
Strong problem-solving skills and real attention to detail. You notice the small things before they become big problems.
A full driver’s licence—you’ll need to travel between sites.
Highly Regarded:
Experience with pumps, motors, augers, or automated systems.
Agricultural, irrigation, or rural maintenance background.
Welding or fabrication skills.
Electrical troubleshooting experience.
