Curtain And Blind Installation Technician Needed In New Zealand

There’s something satisfying about walking into a room after the last blind is fitted and the final curtain is hung seeing everything straight, level, and exactly as it should be. If you take pride in that kind of work, Drapes and Blindz Direct in New Plymouth wants to meet you. We’re looking for a Curtain & Blind Installation Technician to join our team, installing the window coverings we make right here in our own factory. It’s a hands-on role that combines practical skills, customer service, and the chance to put the finishing touch on homes and businesses across Taranaki.

About the Company

Drapes and Blindz Direct has been helping Taranaki homeowners and businesses create beautiful spaces for over 35 years. We’re the only locally owned window furnishing company in the region that manufactures our own products—curtains, blinds, and specialty covering right here in our New Plymouth factory. That means when you’re installing, you’re working with products made by people you know, built to standards we set ourselves. We’re a collaborative, friendly team that takes pride in quality and genuinely cares about getting it right for every customer.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Professionally: You’ll be out in the field, safely and efficiently installing curtains, blinds, and specialty products in residential and commercial settings. Every job is different, and every installation reflects on us.

  • Sometimes customers need existing coverings repaired, maintained, or cleaned. You’ll handle those jobs with the same care and attention as a new installation.

  • You’re not just fitting hardware you’re representing the company. You’ll talk customers through the finished product, answer their questions, and make sure they’re happy before you leave.

  • Not every wall is perfectly straight, and not every window is square. When installation challenges come up, you’ll figure out the best way to handle them and keep the job moving.

  • You’ll maintain a clean work environment, follow safety protocols, and make sure you’re working safely especially when ladders and heights are involved.

  • Before you head out, you’ll collaborate with the sales team to understand exactly what the customer needs, making sure there are no surprises when you arrive.

  • You’ll keep accurate records of completed installations and feed back any insights to the team—what worked well, what could be improved, and what customers loved.

  • Products and techniques evolve. You’ll stay up-to-date with industry trends and keep developing your technical skills.

What We’re Looking For

  • You don’t need to be a qualified tradie, but you should be comfortable with tools, measuring, and figuring out how things fit together. Experience in joinery, construction, or similar fields is a plus.

  • You notice when something’s slightly out of level. You take the time to get it right because you know the customer will notice too.

  •  When things don’t go exactly to plan, you stay calm and work out a solution. You don’t panic you figure it out.

  • you’re happy to talk to customers, answer questions, and make sure they’re happy. A friendly, professional manner goes a long way.

  • You’ll work alongside sales and other installation staff, so being easy to get along with and willing to help out matters.

  •  You’re proficient with installation tools and equipment, and you’re okay working up ladders when needed.

  • The role involves lifting, carrying, moving around, and being on your feet. You need to be fit enough to handle that day in, day out.

  •  You’ll be driving to customer sites, so a full licence is essential.

What We Offer

  • You won’t be thrown in the deep end. We provide thorough training and ongoing support so you can build confidence and skills over time.

  •  We work hard, but we enjoy working together. You’ll be part of a team that looks out for each other and celebrates getting things right.

  • There’s genuine pride in installing something that was made just down the road, by people you know. That’s what we offer here.

  • Different homes, different windows, different products. If you like variety, you’ll get plenty of it.

  • As we grow, there may be opportunities to take on more responsibility or develop new skills.
